The Holden Torana is a mid-sized car that was manufactured by Australia's own Holden from 1967 through to 1980.
The original four-cylinder HB series Torana, released in 1967, was a compact vehicle closely based on the British Vauxhall Viva HB series (1966–1970).
In 1969, a longer-wheelbase six-cylinder version was introduced in the LC and LJ series. And in 1974, eight-cylinder versions were added to the mix in the LH and LX series.
From November 1976, Holden re-badged the four-cylinder versions of the Torana as the Holden Sunbird.
It was perhaps predominately thanks to Australian Motor Sport, that the Torana earned its fame in becoming a household name, with its legacy cemented in Australian Automotive History. In 1970, Holden released a performance-enhanced version of the LC Torana, the GTR XU1. And in 1972, Peter Brock drove his LJ series GTR XU1 to victory in Bathurst's Hardie Ferodo 500. Peter Brock would go on to win another 8 Bathurst races throughout his career driving Holdens, and the Torana obtained many victories in both rallying and circuit racing motor sport during its production years.
